I have a layout commission in the new issue of Scrapbook magazine, which I loved doing. I was sent a little kit from Pickleberry papercrafts and we could use it how we liked. I had these lovely photos of Freya in a poppy field and I knew they would go great together.

The mag is full of great pages, ideas and lovely papers and embellishments to drool over!

is up over at Truly, Madly, Crafty! This week it was my turn and I just had fun with paint, book pages, quotes and words. It was nice just to let go with the paint, not really worry about what was going on the page and building up layers and texture. Here's some pics of what I did.

January Technique - Paint

I have decided to use an old A4 diary to house all my pages for this project, so whether they be scrapbook or more art journal focused they will all be together, which is fine.

I started off by covering my page with some acrylic paint (parchment)

Next I grabbed some watercolour paints and roughly painted over the base paint in blues.

then I added some greens

To add some interest and texture I ripped some strips from an old book and stuck them down, used a lid with white paint on to add some circles and used paint on a piece of card to squish some paint patches onto the page too. I just had fun and did what I felt like to add texture to the pages.

I found a quote I wanted to use, typed it up, printed it out and stuck it the right hand page and added some journalling on a piece of notepaper. I printed out a small photo of my family and stuck this in too. I used a Jenni Bowlin paint dabber in cough syrup around the left edge and made circles across the bottom. I added an Elles studio tab to the top too. To finish off I used some Maya mist in silver and rose pink.

Saying goodbye to 2011

The new challenge up at Truly, Madly, Crafty is 'anything goes' for the month of Jan, so basically a free reign on this one. But seeing as it was the end of the year i decided to do a page about 2011 and some of the memorable things we did. I really enjoyed going through my photos and choosing which ones to put on the page, that in itself was a good thing to do. I was really pleased with how it turned out and it is now stuck on the wall in our kitchen/dining room for all to see! Why don't you go and make something and join in the challenge!

There is also a new year long challenge going on, which is the ONE WORD, ONE TECHNIQUE challenge, you can read all about it here. I am really looking forward to getting started on this new journey and hope to do each one so it builds into a nice set of pages/projects! Let me know if you are going to join us!

it's feeling a little more like Christmas.....

We haven't got our real Christmas tree yet but will do that on Saturday. For now we have a fakey kids tree in our kitchen (above) and the children have small trees in their rooms with lights on, very cute! How's your decorating going?

it's quite scary to actually write that in! Where did 2011 go and more to the point where is December going!!!! I am off christmas shopping this morning and hope to make a big dent in my list!

1. Realising I am no good at waiting for news when either of my parents are in hospital having procedures done, it scares me!

I made for the new ECP challenge which is to use SIX patterned papers on your project. I went small and did another little ATC, with six different patterned papers using a stamp shaped punch and a nice little quote. I really like doing these, they take a few minutes, a few scraps and a few words. Why not give it a go?

Yesterday I had a nerve wracking morning, as I I had an interview at a local Secondary School for a little job in their art and photography dept, and I got the job!!! It's just 8hrs per week, so I can still do my design work and magazine stuff, but it's something a bit different and I'll be supporting the art teachers and students. I start next month sometime.

Back to school and some kind of normality

It's been VERY quiet here, mainly due to the 6 weeks school holidays, a 2 week trip around Europe and getting ready for going back to school. Here are a few pics from over the break:

So, today the children are back to school and the house is extremely quiet. I am getting organised, planning work, writing lists and generally getting back to it.

Here are two projects I've done in the last week. Firstly a page for the Truly, Madly, Crafty challenge blog, the theme is 'new':

I used all 'new' stash, which was lovely and the journalling is about Freya leaving infant school and starting in her new junior school.

This one is for Easy Craft Projects and the theme is yellow, I also used one of the digi images from the sponsor, which was a very funky rock chick girl!

I am also thinking about doing Shimelles LSNED this month, I did it before, but already it's the 5th and I dont really have anything to show for it, so it may be a notebook and pen job and then I'll pull it together into something else.

Hi all, the newest challenge over at ECP is a recipe challenge, which I loved. We had to use paint, ribbon and a button. I decided to keep things small and fun and chose to do an ATC card, use a quote and alter it and have fun doing so. I love this little card and plan to do some more too.

A new kit has gone on sale at Truly, Madly, Crafty and it is a travel kit, see it here. I had a pleasure of getting my hands on one of them and working on some projects. The kit has loads of lovely embellishments in it, which can be used for cards, layouts, books and a whole host of other things. Here are the projects I made using the kit:

Got some great photos to post and have been very busy working on some card designs all of last week, ended up doing 17 designs for a card company, but took up all my week. I am pleased to say I completed my list of 10 things to do, the wedding was fabulous and today we are all recovering and remembering the fantastic time we had and thanking our lucky stars that the wedding wasn't today in this torrential rain!

I need to get done before my friends wedding tomorrow:

1. Give myself a lovely pedicure (as my new shoes really do show my feet off!)
2. Charge camera battery in readiness for the gazillions of photos I will be taking.
3. Print out more colouring sheets ready for children at said wedding.
4. Get the poster I've made for the happy couple printed and put in frame and wrap!
5. Write the card.
6. Practise my reading.
7. Iron my new dress.
8. Apply a light coat of Johnsons holiday sun.
9. Got to have a manicure.
10. Pray for good weather as it's a very rustic kind of wedding in their garden, complete with bunting, tea lights, haybales etc!

I was on a roll today and after some time wasting, I got in gear and worked on four pages today and I love them all!!! I will post them soon when I'm able. I also applied for a DT position, so we'll see if anything comes of that, as I am sure loads of people have done the same thing. :-)

I'll post some layouts tomorrow, but for now here's a lovely photo of me taking photos on our trip to Italy last year:

I am currently trying to plan our route for this summer and it is a bit of a headache, but trying to make it fun and inspiring for me.

Quick Cards

I work with Quick Cards each month to do various things, and in this months issue here I have pride of place on the cover, not once but twice!!! I worked on the 3D letters which make the word 'HOME' and I also designed the free papers available in the magazine and as a download I think. When you feel the photo has captured the memory

I love it when I go through my (many) photographs and find that I am thrilled with how they came out. Last weekend we spent Saturday afternoon with friends at Aston Court, an old stately home with many acres of grounds. It was hot and sunny and we had food and the kids played, it was fab. These are the things I hope they will remember and this is one of the photos I love.

I love the sunlight and the three girls (one not mine) and one boy playing together and enjoying the outdoors, the warmth and the space.

This weekend we are off to the sea and I can't wait for more space, more air and more photos!

This was the view on the walk us girls did on our weekend away together. I've been friends with these girls since school and even though someone has always been living miles and miles away, we have all stayed in touch. We spent a lovely girlie weekend in Hope Cove, Devon and the weather couldn't have been better. Lots of talking, eating and catching up with one another. just what we need sometimes.

I had a lovely time photographing my friend teaching yoga to children, just a few weeks ago. She is teaching two new classes at BCY so needed some promotional shots for the website and leaflets. My three children all took the class and it was a great time. I haven't seen the edited photos yet, but I'll be sure to post some when they come back.

I have two fantastic kits ready to create with from Which Crafts, the Summer Dreams kit, which is full of gorgeous colours, fantastic embellishments and ribbons etc. I can see lots of summery projects coming from this. I also have the red embellishment kit which again is gorgeous, on sale from 1 May. Go check them out!

I have a lovely noticeboard project in this months Quick Cards (87)

I love doing the Luxury Make item for this mag, it's always a lot of fun to do. The one I've just finished for issue 89 is one of my favourites. I also designed the set of papers that come free in the middle of the mag, lots of florals this time, much fun!

I've been doing my after school craft club at one of the local academy schools again, and it's been fun. I have a group of about 9 children and for the most part they are all enthusiastic and interested in the projects I' have done with them. It's fun seeing what they come up with and if they follow the instructions closely or go out on their own. It looks like I will be doing it next term too, so I need to think of lots more lo-cost craft ideas for years 7/8 pupils.

I definitely am needing more hours in each day at the moment, I don't know where the time goes, but I seem to have lots on my plate and it involves lots of juggling and planning.

In the meantime here are the two pages I have featured in Scrapbook Magazine this month, both for mothers day. Really pleased with how they came out, my Mum was chuffed too!

Here is the art journal spread I put together for the first challenge over at Which Crafts, Lots of colour, layers, gesso, tissue paper, book pages – I really enjoyed doing little bits and then coming back to it and adding to it. I hope I do many more. I've done it in a desk diary that I was given last year but didn't use. So I gesso'd the pages and off I went, perfect! It's nice to get messy and painty and just try things out for fun!

I do quite a lot of work for some of the UK craft magazines and one of those is Quick Cards Made Easy from Origin Publishing. It's a good magazine with lots of cards and other papercraft projects in it. I have lots of fun with the projects I do for them and get quite a free reign which is lovely. For the January issue I restyled a diary:

For the new issue of Quick Cards on sale now I just did the 'Stash Raiders' section, where the idea is to use up old stash to make a card for someone. In this issue I made a more masculine themed card with a bunting thing going on, I loved it!

I've also been designing some of the papers that are printed into the mag each month, which the reader can use to make cards and other projects. I've just finished a lovely set which will be on sale next month! Keep a look out!

Which Crafts?

Last year I had the opportunity to guest design for Which Crafts, which was great! This year Maxine has asked me to be on the Design Team for real! Which is great. She puts together some lovely kits and I'm really looking forward to playing with the goodies and creating something lovely.

She is also running a new project for 2011 called Life and Me which is a year long project where prompts will be posted every other week for you to create something in whatever form you like. This weeks prompt is : ME! We all take time to document others but whatabout ourselves? I am working on an art journal page for this and in fact may do the whole thing as a journal, we'll see. I'll be posting my pages here and I they'll get posted on the Which Crafts blog too I think.

Tomorrow is after school craft class again, week 2! Slightly less nervous this week, but it's been fun planning the session and researching what I am going to do with them. I have no idea how many will be there this week. So, I am doing 3 tree decorations with them, the first two quite simple and the third has a little more steps, but not too difficult. Here they are:

This week on Wednesday I am doing an after school 'Christmas craft club' for the first time at a local Academy school. It's for 6 weeks and i have 12 pupils signed up apparently. I've spent some time today working out my plans for the 6weeks and completed two projects and a worksheet for this week. Here are the two cards I am making with them:

For both cards I've tried to use materials that they could easily find at home, so could complete more on their own. The snowman uses tissue paper, book page and buttons with a little bit of sequin mesh and the tree card is made from magazines!

I am looking forward to it, a little nervous, but I think it will be good for me and a great opportunity and experience.

I've been putting some time into drawing and painting. I've signed up to the Art, heart and healing course (see side bar) and the videos that Tam has put together are excellent. I've really enjoyed drawing again and spending time on this. This is my first page in my art journal:

I was really pleased with how she came out. I've invested in some watercolour crayons which are fab. Lots more experimenting to do but it's an enjoyable thing to do. Even the children have been drawing and using my crayons, its lovely to see them getting creative too. i bought each of them their own journal which they can use for drawing, creating and writing too.

We were lucky enough to have a lovely sunny October weekend, and on Sunday we had some time at one of our local parks. A good combination of wide open space, walks, river and a playground, something for everyone. Took some photos and have been editing them this week. Here are two of them:

The theme this week was the colour purple! I struggled to find enough purple products in my stash so decided to do a digital page this time. I was quite pleased with it!

I used an ALi Edwards template, some Kitschy Digitals elements, and some Paislee Press papers in there.

looking forward to seeing EAT, PRAY, LOVE at the cinema. I took it on our trip to Italy in the summer and loved reading her experience of Rome. The yoga part of the book was interesting as was the Bali part at the end. I love Julia Roberts though, and the trailer makes me want to see it.

I have finished my cover for this online class and the base for the whole book.

I cut out some yellow gingham fabric, gathered some favourite embellishments and then stitched and glued them on to make the title. I then placed some cardstock inside the fabric and stitched around the outside to secure it and make it a little stronger. I then punched holes in the cover and used some large book rings to hold the cover and pages together. At the moment I have just chopped out 30 4 x 6 pieces of different patterned cardstocks to use as a base for each day.

Which Crafts project

I had the pleasure of guest designing at Which Crafts this month, and had a lovely chipboard butterfly kit sent to me from Maxine! Here is what I came up with, a butterfly book! I knew I wanted to do something more than a flat butterfly, so used the wings as a template to add pages to the right hand side. I then printed out some of my hipstamatic pics from my iphone, with a general theme of summer, added these in and embellished the pages. Fun!

I posted this photo in response to the first challenge for Shimelles new class (see side bar). We had to choose a photo that makes us smile. I chose this one. I love the fact that it shows Freya in full hula motion, but also the colours, the background and the light in it.

Today, over at Which Crafts? it's the colour challenge, so the idea being you create a card or layout using one colour only. I knew I wanted to use green, so went through my stash and picked out some papers and embellishments. I immediately thought about doing an outdoorsy layout, so it was easy to write about my boy and his love for being outside! Which Crafts? mini challenge

Over at Which Crafts? there are lots of things going on, I decided to do the mini challenges that Maxine posted. The first was to make a card or layout without using patterned paper! What?!!! I LOVE patterned paper! But I made this cute little card using white cardstock, a cupcake stamp from Smirk, AC glitter cardstock, some glitter tags from Smirk and some ribbon. I think it looks great, even without patterned paper.

Getting back into the routine of the kids being back in School and pre-school again, so I have some time here on my own. Getting some work finished and working on new projects for my new design teams, which is exciting!

In the meantime, here is a pic from our fab day out on Sunday at River Cottage HQ in Devon. I bought tickets for us all to go to the Spring into Summer Fair and it was a lovely day. Lots to do and see and of course lots of photos taken!

Recently I've been putting myself out there, trying to get my work a bit more visible and have entered some pub calls and things llike that. It's been fun, some have led somewhere and others haven't but that's fine too. It's been good working with criteria and goals in mind, otherwise it's hard to motivate myself sometimes.

I have had a page accepted for the new Scrapbook Inspirations book which is out in the summer, which is exciting. Obviously can't show that one yet. In fact it was a digi page, which has kind of sparked my interest in digi scrapping again. I have dabbled over the years and as a designer have used Photoshop for 15 years or so, so I am familiar with all it can do, well a little of it!

So here is a page I did over the weekend, and I will post some more over the next week or so.

I am really pleased with it! I used some favourite things throughout the pages, things I love, which is the whole point of it really. I chose a mainly grey, yellow and pink theme, some Hambly transparencies, October Afternoon papers and die cuts, some Love, elsie bits, some Heidi swapp alphas and OCtober Afternoon letter stcikers, ribbons, buttons and felt! It's all in there!
